Influenza is Making a Come Back

During the COVID-19 pandemic we were all made to wear masks, sanitize our hands and keep a social
distance. These measures made a significant impact on reducing the spread of COVID-19 between our
neighbours, friends and family as well as the people in the wider community. Because of these measures we
also saw fewer cases of influenza over the same period.

Now that we have returned to normality, the number of cases of influenza is increasing. Influenza can cause
serious respiratory, cardiovascular and neurological complications. These complications especially occur, in
vulnerable people, such as the elderly, those with diabetes, those with compromised immunity. We,
therefore, advise our patients to get the ‘flu shot’ as the influenza vaccine is the most effective way to
protect you and your loved ones from influenza and prevent the spread of influenza in the community.

The influenza vaccine is available from March. Arrange an appointment, at your earliest convenience, to get
the ‘flu shot’.
